The boys were always her top priority. So, if Dylan needed help with school, she would set aside all of her time for him

Jenny typically took a short nap in the afternoon :)

VolunteeringJenny gave her time to many, but her most fulfilling cause was being a Court-Appointed Special Advocate.

Traveling: But rarely the same place within a short period of time. Favorite destinations were Hawaii, Australia, Japan and Europe

Walking with friends: Because, otherwise, raising teenage kids can be a lonely job

Jenny G Chow, 53, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 25. However, her positive and caring spirit remains alive inside all who knew her. Raised in Poughkeepsie, New York, Jenny earned her undergraduate degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, majoring in mechanical engineering. After four years working for Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, PA, Jenny decided to make a career switch and attended the UCLA School of Law, where she became a Managing Editor of the UCLA Law Review. Following law school graduation, Jenny settled down in the Bay Area with her family and worked as an intellectual property attorney, spending the majority of her career at Siemens Healthcare before moving to Varian at the beginning of 2022.

Court Appointed Special Advocate for foster children; championing a project to refurbish discarded strollers to be given to families in transition and teaching disadvantaged children, for whom English was a second language, how to read.

Jenny's favorite leisure activities included listening to classical music, traveling and trying new recipes. She particularly enjoyed accepting plants--many of them struggling--from friends and neighbors, and then nursing them to good health and propagating them. The immediate family she leaves behind will maintain her beautiful garden and potted plants as a tribute to her.

Jenny is survived by her loving husband of 21 years, Loren; their twin boys Dylan and Tyler; her parents, Hsien and Jane Ko; her brother and sister-in-law Andrew and Christine Ko; and niece and nephew Naomi and Elliott Ko.

The causes Jenny admired and contributed to most were:

In Memoriam: Jenny Ko

We extend our deepest condolences to all who knew Jenny
Ko, who was tragically taken from her family, friends, and
colleagues in a car accident on June 25.

Jenny joined Siemens in August 2001 as Patent Counsel
supporting a variety of different Siemens technology
portfolios before focusing her counseling in the healthcare
businesses of radiation therapy and then ultrasound. Jenny
then transferred to Varian as Senior Intellectual Property
Counsel in August 2021 supporting the Technology &
Innovation Office (TIO), Varian Proton Solutions (VPS), proton
Flash and the cardiac radioablation (CRA) team.
Jenny’s colleagues describe her as someone with a
remarkable thirst for knowledge and a quiet strength and
practicality that she used to guide teams through the intricacies of intellectual property. Her extensive
experience in the role provided a calming atmosphere to the team. She was also a great listener, easy
going, and had a subtle sense of humor that endeared her to many.  She loved technology and she loved
her family.

Jenny’s colleagues in the intellectual property department of Siemens Healthineers globally are
heartbroken by her loss. “She was not only a colleague, but a friend to many of us developing a bond
with colleagues in IP internationally at Siemens Healthineers, Siemens AG and Varian,” they wrote.
“Jenny will be missed by all those who had the pleasure to work with her.”

“As her colleagues on the Varian CRA team, we only wish we could have had more time to get to know
her better,” said JoAnn Stewart, CRA program manager. “Still, she left a lasting impression. She was
always at the ready and prepared to help our team navigate the world of IP. She listened but also
demonstrated her caring by reaching out and taking the time to check in with others. The CRA team will
be forever impacted by her loss.”

Loren Chow, Jenny’s beloved husband, shared some personal details about Jenny’s qualities and
passions. For example, he said, Jenny loved crossword puzzles and would put the Sunday paper
crossword out on the family dining table for everyone to work on while eating. “It was her clever way of
getting us to take a break from our screens and do something together,” he said. “Jenny also loved
classical music, frequently finding chamber orchestras to enjoy and playing the piano at home--Chopin
was a favorite.”

Jenny loved to garden in the family’s backyard. “Her favorite activity was to accept plants--many of them
dyingstruggling--from friends and neighbors, nurse them back to health and propagate them,” Loren
added.

Jenny spent much of her spare time helping others. She taught disadvantaged children, for whom
English was a second language, how to read. She was also a Court-Appointed Special Advocate volunteer
for foster children.

In addition to her husband, Jenny is survived by her two sons, Dylan and Tyler who will maintain her vast
garden and potted plants as a loving tribute to her.To honor Jenny’s commitment to bettering the lives
of foster children, the family kindly requests donations to benefit Child Advocates of Silicon Valley.
