Coasting on the momentum given to him by his mom, Dylan is now officially an Eagle Scout. The designation, given to just six percent of all Scouts, came after passing Thursday night's Eagle Board of Review. Dylan sat for 70 minutes fielding questions from three members of Pacific Skyline Council.
Though Dylan did all the work, the accomplishment is truly a tribute to Jenny. Jenny was Dylan's tireless manager, organizer, cheerleader and confidant behind this effort. She tracked Dylan's merit badges and requirements, made countless reservations for camping trips, inspired and partnered with him for his Eagle project and gave Dylan ideas for his leadership activities. Scouts is a volunteer organization with the expectation that families give their time. For this, Jenny took on the role of Service Hours Reporting for the troop and led the Law, Citizenship in the Nation and Public Speaking merit badges.
Some comments:
From the Troop 30 Scoutmaster:
I just wanted to say: CONGRATULATIONS. You should be extremely proud of every part of your scouting journey. You are a great role model for the other scouts. You really shined as a leader in the past several years, in particular with the creative online scavenger hunts and games, and the bike ride, all designed to help scouts have fun and take their minds off COVID. I know that it inspired many of your peers to "elevate their game" when they led events. And as the father of a musician / former bugler, I always enjoyed when you were the one playing the bugle calls.
But more than anything, the courage, commitment, and focus that it must have taken you during the past 5 months, to finish this journey -- it is beyond anything I can fathom a person going through. I know that your mom IS extremely proud of you for persevering. You have done her memory a tremendous honor by finishing, and by finishing so strongly. (Emphasis added.)
I too am extremely proud of you. You are an inspiration to me.
The BOR Team:
