THE GIFT OF MUSIC: FUNDING RAISED FOR JENNY'S CAUSES!

For Jenny's celebration of life, I can't think of anything more fitting than playing a game of Name That Tune. Jenny, after all, loved music. She loved to teach it, play it and listen to it. Her favorite genres were music from the 1970s, 1980s and classical music from all four periods.

What could be more appropriate, then, than playing a fun game of Name That Tune featuring songs that Jenny enjoyed? Even more fun, it was exciting that funding for Jenny's favorite causes would be based on how well our guests played!

The game, thought by many to be the most uplifting of the evening, was expertly run and created by Jenny's brother Andrew. Taken as a whole, it was a challenging bunch of songs. The answer key is as shown in the table. (Note the bonus for the classical music piece by Mozart.) The song and artist that was correct the most often was also the first: Jessie's Girl by Rick Springfield. Jenny liked this artist and had a poster of him on her bedroom wall growing up. The hardest of the night, it turned out, was next with Some Like It Hot by Power Station. Nobody at my table had any guesses for that one.

In honor of Jenny and the event, her cousin Tom put together a playlist on Spotify featuring ten of the songs in the competition. So, if you ever have a hankering for those Jenny vibes, as I so often do, give this playlist a try!

Overall, the group was challenged. Out of a possible 35 points, the most common range of the night was 10-14 points with the high being 29 points. However, there was strength in numbers. As a group, we scored 758 points. The pledge was $2 per point. To match that contribution, though, we're using a fund that Jenny set up for her favorite causes: Partners in Health, Doctors Without Borders, Fistula Foundation and Child Advocates of Silicon Valley. With some rounding and corporate matching from my employer, I'm excited to say the event generated $8,000 in contributions! That amount will be split evenly across Jenny's four causes.

Thank you Andrew for leading this game and to everyone who played!
